Trainer form and Racing Post Ratings analysis for Kempton this evening

Roger Varian: trainer of Surfman who won his maiden at Nottingham in impressive style

Using the Racing Post's unrivalled bank of stats, we pick out three horses to back tonight based on trainer form, Racing Post Ratings and, tonight's wild card, combined strike-rate

Trainer form

Canvassed
6.45 Kempton
Angle: Roger Varian's yard is in red-hot form

Canvassed was purchased for 350,000gns as a yearling and looked as if he had the potential to justify that price tag when recording a smooth debut win at Newcastle last September.

We haven't seen the son of Shamardal since, but his trainer Roger Varian is in excellent form having sent out three winners from his last seven runners (43 per cent), including a Listed win last Saturday at Doncaster with Sharja Bridge.

This four-year-old clearly hasn't been straightforward to train, but possesses a heap of natural ability and should be ready and raring to go.

Racing Post Ratings

Murhib
8.15 Kempton
Angle: recorded a career best RPR last time

This is not a strong contest, but Murhib is a worthy favourite after getting off the mark at the 12th attempt last time, a victory which came over a furlong longer at the track.

Formerly with Mikel Delzangles, Murhib was under six lengths behind subsequent Group 1 Prix Royal-Oak scorer Holdthasigreen on his final start in France in February 2016.

Now with Lydia Richards, his first win earned him an RPR of 53, 3lb better than his previous best. He may be a seven-year-old, but is relatively lightly raced and looks to be nearing his peak.

Wild card

Rashdan
7.15 Kempton
Angle: successful trainer and jockey combination

James Doyle is Godolphin's number two jockey, so it is quite impressive he still has such a strong strike-rate for Hugo Palmer.

The pair have always had a profitable relationship and Doyle has ridden 56 winners from 257 rides for the Newmarket trainer, which equates to a very respectable 22 per cent strike-rate.

Doyle has his first sit on Rashdan this evening, and the Al Shaqab-owned gelding is down to an appealing mark.
