Amazing Maria was one of the stars of last season when winning at Royal Ascot and two Group 1s subsequently. In that context, this season has been a huge disappointment but there were signs she was on the way back in France last time. At her best, she has the class to win the Shadwell Joel Stakes at Newmarket (3.40).

The key to Amazing Maria is a strong pace and decent ground, and so there can be no excuses because three of her opponents have put up their best performances when racing prominently and the ground is quickening up all the time.
