Tom Segal tries to negotiate the first three legs in his Ascot Placepot perm

A royal winner but no hats to take off - Tactical scores for Her Majesty in the Windsor Castle Stakes
Ascot: race on Sunday afternoonCredit: Edward Whitaker

If you can get through the first three legs of the Ascot Placepot, then you should have a good chance of landing the perm as things only get easier in the second half.

The opening 1m2f handicap (12.45) looks particularly tricky. However, with William Haggas's team in such good form, Fruiton has to be included, while Lady Sansa is unexposed and should improve for the step up in trip.

With only seven set to go to post for the following betfred.com Fillies' Handicap (1.20), it is best to put in a couple and Rose Hip and Chitra look sure to run well. While the two drawn highest, Magic J and Equitation, have solid chances in the sprint handicap (1.55).

The staying handicap (2.30) is competitive but Sam Cooke could be a lot better than his mark and he will appreciate dropping back in trip. Ralph Beckett's runner is banker material.

Miss O Connor could make up into a Group 1 filly and she has to be selected in the Betfred Valiant Fillies' Stakes (3.05).

It's fair to assume that More Beautiful is better than she showed in the Queen Mary and she will appreciate the better ground and step up to 6f, but so should Caroline Dale and she is likely to be the better Placepot option in the Princess Margaret (3.40).
