Tom Collins tries to navigate through a tricky Lingfield card for his Placepot

Small fields are the order of the day for Lingfield's all-weather meeting but with wintry conditions causing havoc to the jumps cards, it's wise to stick to the Flat for your Placepot perms.

The only contest that features more than eight runners in your Tote wager is the opening 1m2f handicap (12.40), in which George Boughey may hold the key with the unexposed Ruby Red Empress.

Only beaten two-and-a-half lengths over this course and distance on her return, she rates as a filly that is ahead of her mark and looks set for a career-best effort. The consistent River Sprite is also included.

The following 1m2f handicap (1.15) is the best race of the day by a mile. Mark Johnston has a 55 per cent strike-rate in the last two weeks and his Sky Defender has to feature on your perm. The prolific Power Of States also gets the nod.

Host looks banker material in the mile maiden (1.50) after a good comeback second, while Invincible Larne and Jackstar, who gets first-time blinkers, should take you through leg four (2.25).

Aleatoric and Lyrica's Lion look the best-handicapped horses in the trappy 2m handicap (3.00).

Finally, there's no better feeling than having the majority of the field running for you in the last leg (3.35), so opting for in-form Verne Castle and outsiders Pop Dancer and Saaheq will give you some confidence of landing the money.
