Tom Collins opts for two bankers in his Haydock Placepot perm

Credit: Edward Whitaker

Heavy ground at Haydock means we're dealt small fields, with just one race featuring more than eight runners.

Nevertheless, the trappy nature of the contests should enable Placepot punters to make a fair profit if they can navigate the six legs.

Bushypark landed one of the gambles of the year when he plundered a handicap hurdle at Hexham last month and he could easily follow up despite a 15lb rise in the opener (12.10). Strike West is also included in case it was a one-off performance.

There's little strength in depth in the following maiden hurdle (12.45). Roman Rock, who reverts back from fences on his debut for Richard Newland, is selected.

There are just four runners in the novice chase (1.15) but they all hold reasonable chances. Race fitness is key, so I'll pass on Royale Pagaille, while Espoir De Romay and Doc Penfro put in better efforts than Redford Road last time.

Provided there isn't a non-runner in the intermediate hurdle (1.50), thus making it winner only, it looks a race to bank in. Smart Flat performer Ranch Hand has the class to go close.

Indy Five deserves compensation in the veterans' chase (2.20) after a tough defeat on his reappearance. Also take Late Romantic, who should improve for his comeback run.

Jennie Candlish's team is red-hot and Oscars Leader should go close in the finale (2.55) under a light weight. Four-year-old Goobinator is a safe back-up.
