Tom Collins is keeping Paul Nicholls onside in his Southwell Placepot perm
Jump racing fans will be ecstatic to see the return of racing at Southwell on Wednesday afternoon and although it may not be the best card in terms of quality, some powerful connections and promising horses are represented throughout the meeting.
None more so than Nineohtwooneoh, who looks a banker for Placepot punters in the opening 2m4½f handicap hurdle (12.00).
This unexposed six-year-old looked on a sharp upward curve for top trainer Paul Nicholls and owner JP McManus at the beginning of the year and must be better than his mark of 104.
The following 2m handicap chase (12.35) looks wide open and it is wise to play safe at this early point in the perm. Tonto's Spirit and Isaac Wonder are fit from a prep run on the Flat, while Tidal Watch has proved he goes well fresh in the past.
There isn't much form on offer for the 2m bumper (1.10) but The Greater Good's point-to-point score was encouraging, while Jamie Snowden's Donnie Azoff is bred to get the trip.
I'll take a flyer with the unexposed Flintrock in what looks a very competitive 2m4½f handicap hurdle (1.40). He ran well behind the likes of Shishkin in novice events early this year and travelled well on his prep run.
It's also worth having a saver on the Dan Skelton-trained Iconic Hero, who could be well-treated off a mark of 105.
The penultimate 2m novice hurdle (2.10) is probably the best race on the card and I'm excited to see Medalla De Oro return to hurdling. Smart Flat horse Thrave is also included.
Confidence will be high if you can get through to the final leg as topweight Ashutor looks to complete a fine day for Nicholls in division two of the novice hurdle (2.40). He was last seen competing at Royal Ascot.
