Tom Collins analyses the credentials of four favourites in the US

R U Lucky
6.45 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 9-5

Three-time winner from six starts, R U Lucky is a speedy colt who seems to be on a sharp upward curve for shrewd trainer Saffie Joseph. Has won on a muddy track and wasn't disgraced in the slop on debut, so rain isn't a problem, but his effort last time was poor.

Conclusion Too short but wouldn't want to oppose. Leave the race.

Geonosis
7.46 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 7-5

Took six runs to get off the mark but did so in game style (beat a subsequent winner) at this track 12 months ago. Hasn't added to that success in four starts since, but he is very consistent on speed figures. Not run for five months but has a plum draw in gate one.

Conclusion Had plenty of works, so should be fit, and this is an awful race.

Sniper Shot
8.49 Gulfstream Park
SP forecast 6-5

Promising four-year-old who has won twice and finished runner-up twice from four starts. Todd Pletcher is taking a steady approach with this already-gelded son of Shackleford, who has form figures of 112 at Gulfstream Park. Suited by sloppy surface and should come on for his reappearance.

Conclusion Would be surprised if he went off odds against. Winner.

Four Wheel Drive
10.44 Churchill Downs
SP forecast 2-1

Exceptionally fast American Pharoah colt who broke his maiden first up for trainer Wesley Ward at Colonial Downs in a black type contest in August last year. Romped home in the Grade 3 Futurity Stakes at Belmont Park in October and made it three from three with an all-the-way score in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint. Returns from six months off.

Conclusion Plum draw in gate one and should be able to give 5lb to all of his rivals.
