Tom Segal with his unmissable advice on Hennessy Gold Cup day at Newbury

Before the start of yesterday's racing, I assumed that the ground for the Hennessy Gold Cup (3.10) at Newbury would be testing and would suit a slogger.

However, after watching the action, listening to the jockeys and seeing the times, it became apparent the ground isn't so demanding and the complexion of the big race has changed.

Despite his big weight, I would have much preferred a softer surface for my ante-post fancy Smad Place and I fear he might have to go too fast too soon and might find conceding loads of weight beyond him. He could still easily hit the frame, but on good ground, winning might be beyond him.
