The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Tuesday

BANKER

Clarion (3.00 Brighton)

Although only four head to post for this maiden, it's probably the best race on the Brighton card as all of the runners represent strong connections and have decent form in the book. There is a standout, however, in the shape of Sir Michael Stoute's Clarion. Owned by The Queen, who is on a hot-streak with her horses since Royal Ascot, Clarion built on an encouraging debut in a weak Newmarket novice event by finishing second over a mile at Goodwood to a useful Andrew Balding-trained rival. They were miles clear of the third and this step up in trip looks to be what the doctor ordered.

EYECATCHER

Hedging (2.00 Brighton)

Confrerie, who will be sent off favourite, isn't one to rely on and I'd happily take him on with Eve Johnson Houghton's Hedging, who often runs well at this track. The five-year-old boasts form figures of 81423 at this venue and you can mark up his recent two efforts here when arguably unlucky not to win on both occasions. He absolutely rattled home over this trip on his penultimate outing and would have won in one more stride, while those drawn in the four outside boxes were given a dramatic advantage last time out when half the field, including Hedging, were called back to the start after running the first two furlongs due to the outside stalls not opening. He ran a really nice race to take third after those exertions and remains on the same mark.
