The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Thursday

Richard Fahey: 'If it wasn’t for 48-hour decs I reckon our number of 48 non-runners could be less than 20'

BANKER

Northwest Frontier(7.10 Musselburgh)

Dropping back to Class 5 company, Richard Fahey's Northwest Frontier looks one to be with on Thursday following a useful sixth of 16 in a much better contest on his seasonal reappearance. The four-year-old son of Galileo hasn't proven to be one of his sires best horses in training, but he looks set to pay his way in the staying division and a lot of encouragement can be taken from his run at Thirsk 12 days ago. He travelled well on the pace for a long way that day and stuck to his task gamely in a race that generally suited hold-up performers. He has plenty of movement off his mark, race conditions look perfect and he scored second-time up last year.

EYECATCHER

Southern States (3.00 Lingfield)

Not many jump out in this staying 0-55 handicap and it could be the turn of Lydia Richards' Southern States, who makes his first start since November. Despite having a career record of 0-14, he has shown promise on more than one occasion, including when beaten three lengths over this course and distance in April last year. Following a run of consistent efforts last summer, he didn't look the same horse when running twice in the autumn and hopefully the elongated break has done him the world of good. He should be capable of winning off a mark of 55, especially in a field of this nature.
