The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Thursday
BANKER
Algaffaal (2.20 Lingfield)
This is a very poor mile maiden and I really don't like Contrive and Cogital as betting propositions, which leaves me thinking William Haggas's Algaffaal is an absolute good thing under Jim Crowley. The already-gelded son of Speightstown is obviously nowhere near the top of the trainer's pecking order, but he ran a nice race when second on debut at Newcastle and anything like that performance would see him come out on top. He was disappointing last time out, which is why he won't be odds-on this morning, but he's surely better than that and the return to the all-weather is considered a plus.
GOOD THING
Spiced (8.15 Chelmsford)
Haggas looks set to have a good day as this three-year-old filly also has a huge chance of scoring on the synthetic surface. A six-race maiden, Spiced has run with plenty of credit in all three handicap starts and it's surely just a matter of time before she loses her maiden tag. She was extremely unlucky not to score on her penultimate start when pipped on the line by a subsequent winner and bumped into another horse well above his mark last time out at Wolverhampton. She lacks of a turn of gear, which is why she's rated just 62, but this step up in trip to 1m2f can see her in her best light.
