The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with two to follow on Friday

GOOD THING

Beat Le Bon(3.40 Newbury)

Richard Hannon has won this race twice in the last three years and often targets his smart early-season three-year-olds at it, so unsurprisingly Beat Le Bon, a proper horse for connections this season, heads his two-strong attack on the contest. Unlucky not to win as a juvenile – placed on all four attempts including when second in Listed company – Beat Le Bon got his season off to a good note when landing a poor all-weather novice event last month and would have come on a great deal for that. He steps up to his ideal trip of 7f today and providing he drops his head early, he has all the credentials to win this race on going he won't mind.

EYECATCHER

(4.45 Newbury)

I'm wary of tipping in novice events on soft ground this early in the season but Roger Charlton's daughter of Sea The Stars really caught my eye when fourth in a mile event here on debut in October and given there was ease in the ground on that occasion, I'd like to think conditions shouldn't pose a problem. Having broke slowly, Royal Star was held up at the back of the field before showing a nice turn of foot to draw clear with three other runners. The form looks pretty strong, with the eventual winner Nausha fancied for the 1,000 Guineas and the second and third scoring on their next outings. The trip looks ideal and she should go close.
