The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Wednesday
BANKER
Carp Kid (2.00 Salisbury)
Salisbury's opening mile novice event looks to be dominated by the two at the top of the racecard, Ace Ventura and Carp Kid. Ace Ventura was supported before his first start at Doncaster and ran a nice race to finish fifth, but he looked green throughout and may need another run to help him mentally. Therefore the pin lands on Carp Kid, who was sixth on debut in a good race at Newbury and will almost certainly improve to go close here. Three of the five to finish in front of him that day had good maiden form in the book, while the two newcomers looked above average.
EYECATCHER
Syrian Pearl(5.05 Nottingham)
When people ask me for my cliff horse, Syrian Pearl comes to mind. This talented grey has a habit of finding trouble and I am foolish enough to believe that he'll win next time, every time! He has travelled like the best horse on his last two starts, both at Newmarket, and should have form figures of 11 coming into this race. Stuck behind runners when fifth in the grey handicap, a race he won last year, and then fourth when given a bit of a shocker last time out, Syrian Pearl comes here off the same mark of 79 and really should be good enough to land this prize for the second year in a row.
IRISH ANGLE
Scoil Naisiunta (4.45 Naas)
A competitive affair that should offer plenty of value in the market, this nursery handicap can go the way of the improving Scoil Naisiunta from the Jim Bolger stable. After three poor runs in maiden company, he started life off a mark of 58 and showed dramatic improvement when coming home third of 13 in a Down Royal handicap. Backing that up with a second-placed finish behind reopposing rival Triple Sec last time out, Scoil Naisiunta has been raised 2lb but gets a nice swing in the weights with that horse and has first-time cheekpieces applied.
