BANKER

Kings Ryde(12.30 Taunton)

There are a few with decent form in this field who represent big yards and my money will be on Kings Ryde for Nicky Henderson. He was extremely green on debut behind an unbeaten stablemate and showed considerable improvement to land a novice hurdle a month and a half later by 19 lengths. Despite finishing second when sent off the 1-4 favourite last time out, he was beaten by a decent horse and the Topspeed figure he recorded is the stand out in this contest.

GOOD THING

The Welsh Paddies(2.10 Taunton)

I really like Christian Williams as a trainer and his five-year-old hurdler The Welsh Paddies looks perhaps the bet of the day in this 2m3f handicap hurdle. Having only had five starts to date, The Welsh Paddies is open to any amount of improvement and won a decent race at Warwick when last seen at the start of October. The form is working out well – the second (rated 127) and fourth (rated 122), who reopposes, have scored since – and, off a mark of 125, he looks a good thing.

EYECATCHER

Steel Train (7.15 Chelmsford)

This is a decent mile handicap and Abe Lincoln is likely to be fancied in the betting again despite not showing much on the racecourse in his last two starts. However, I'd rather side with the last-time-out winner Steel Train, who still looks well handicapped having only been raised 4lb for his success over a furlong shorter at this course last month. He seemed to relish the return to the all-weather on that occasion and, despite being short of room more than once in the straight, he quickened up nicely and shot clear. He should follow up.
