EYECATCHER

I Can Fly (Qipco 1,000 Guineas, 3.35 Newmarket)

I'm not a big fan of Happily and, although she's evidently a good filly, I'm happy to take her on at the prices with her stablemate I Can Fly. The daughter of Fastnet Rock was an impressive winner on debut last September at Dundalk – recording a good RPR in the process – before finishing third in the Oh So Sharp Stakes here on her next start when sent off the 2-1 favourite. She travelled well that day but challenged in the wide open down the centre of the track and her inexperience told. That form is working out well and the winner of that contest, Altyn Orda, is in opposition again today but I'm pretty confident she can turn the form around. Her reappearance run this year wasn't bad by any means on horrific ground and there's a lot to like about her chances.

BANKER

Bow Street(5.20 Newmarket)

Charlie Appleby and Godolphin had a four-timer at Newmarket on Saturday and Bow Street looks their best of several cracking chances on Sunday's card. This three-year-old colt handles Newmarket's undulating surface well and made a good reappearance following three useful runs in novice company last season when fourth behind Old Persian at the Craven meeting. The winner only found one too good, another stablemate in fact, in a Listed contest here yesterday. He has to turn the form around with Dukhan, who looks his main danger, but a 6lb swing in the weights should prove vital.

GOOD THING

Rapid Applause (3.45 Hamilton)

This 0-80 sprint handicap can be pretty much narrowed down to two – Rapid Applause and Ma Fee Heela – on recent form and current marks. Although the latter would normally find himself firmly in the 'my type of bet' category, I'll be bypassing him on just his second run for David O'Meara in preference for the well-treated topweight Rapid Applause, who can follow up his impressive Beverley success here. Racing off 77 that day, on just his second start for Mick Easterby, he fairly hacked up despite encountering a number of traffic problems and a 7lb rise shouldn't be too much of an issue. He's used to carrying big weights and is still 26lb lower than his peak rating.
