The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Saturday

BIG-RACE BANKER

Samcro (2.05 Newcastle)

Fantastic bumper performer (3-3) and continued winning ways over hurdles, when landing first four starts in the sphere that included two Grade 1 successes at Leopardstown and Cheltenham. Potentially over the top last season when looking likely to lose when coming down at Punchestown and was given a deserved break after that. Disappointing on his reappearance run, but is likely to strip a lot fitter for that and trainer Gordon Elliott wouldn't be taking on Buveur D'Air and Summerville Boy if he didn't think Samcro was back in flying form. Race fitness is set to play a part.

EYECATCHER

Bigmartre(3.35 Newbury)

Trainer Harry Whittington has a 44 per cent strike-rate (4-9) with chasers at Newbury and Bigmartre, who won over course and distance last year, looks to have a huge chance of enhancing that record. The six-time winner boasts an extremely good record when fresh (form figures with Whittington of 1311126 after 50+ day breaks) and stays this 2m½f trip well. Aside from Lady Buttons, he looks the standout in a relatively weak field.

GOOD THING

Secret Ace (5.15 Wolverhampton)

Archie Watson is a dab hand with his two-year-olds and this daughter of Compton Place was a real eyecatcher on debut when blasting from the gates, showing plenty of professionalism. She didn't quite stay the 6f trip that day, however, so the drop back to the minimum distance is a big plus. She has a nice draw in stall four and can make all against the rail.
