The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Saturday
BANKER
Kachy (1.45 Lingfield)
Fast and consistent sprinter who has taken to the all-weather like a duck to water since being tried on the Polytrack at Lingfield for the first time in January last year (three wins and a second from four starts). Following last season's all-weather campaign, Kachy put up some good displays in Group 1 and 2 company on the turf before undergoing a wind op in the autumn. He returned with a bang when hacking up over 6f at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day and should be able to follow up last year's success in this race despite being drawn wide.
DARK HORSE
Mengli Khan(3.45 Leopardstown)
Highly-regarded performer for trainer Gordon Elliott, Mengli Khan put together a string of cracking efforts last season that culminated in third-placed finishes at Cheltenham and Punchestown before being given the summer off. He looked right back in the groove when winning by ten lengths on his reappearance before a crucial mistake halted his chance last time over this course and distance when comfortably beaten by the reopposing Le Richebourg. However, there looks to be plenty of pace in this contest today – which will definitely help Mengli Khan – and you could find far worse bets at around 10-1.
EACH-WAY PLAY
Lungarno Palace (3.00 Sandown)
A 90-rated performer on the Flat in his prime, Lungarno Palace has managed to transfer his ability to hurdling since moving to Fergal O'Brien's yard and surely has a big handicap like this in him off his current mark of 127. He finished fourth and third off this rating in a couple of competitive handicaps in the autumn before finding the 3m1f trip a step too far at Warwick. The drop back to 2m7½f looks ideal and it's interesting to see he's fitted with cheekpieces and a first-time tongue-tie.
