The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow on Oaks day
BANKER
Kew Gardens (3.10 Epsom)
Trainer Aidan O'Brien is probably going to have another fantastic two days on the Downs and he can kickstart the meeting with a Group 1 winner in the shape of Kew Gardens. The four-year-old colt improved with each race last season having started the campaign with a couple of Listed defeats and being used as a pacemaker in the Derby for stablemate Saxon Warrior. He eventually ended up landing two Group 1s, including the St Leger when he fended off the reopposing Lah Ti Dar, and the Group 2 Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot. Put a line through his reappearance at Chester where the soft ground went against him and he looks a solid bet to record another top-level success.
EYECATCHER
Masham Star (2.35 Epsom)
Probably the most experienced five-year-old you will see in Britain, Masham Star, who thrives off his racing and is turned out every week, has been performing with great credit off a mark of 93 recently and he should be bang there once again in this 1m½f handicap. Based on some of his old form, Masham Star is a well-handicapped horse and he has run well on both starts at this course without winning in the past. A wide draw isn't a problem given he will go to the front, and there doesn't look to be many challengers for the pacemaking duties in this field.
DARK HORSE
Hateya (5.50 Epsom)
Jim Boyle has his team in good condition (3-8 in the last 14 days) and this filly, who has run well on all four starts over this course and distance, including when winning comfortably off a 12lb lower mark last summer, should go close as she reaches full fitness. Having performed well to finish placed on her two runs this year over longer trips, Hateya should be fighting fit and now drops back to 7f at her favourite track. Add to that the benefit of a nice draw in stall one and the fact she is running against a few out-of-form rivals and she looks well worth an each-way bet at her forecast odds.
