The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with three to follow at Royal Ascot
BANKER
Arizona (3.05 Royal Ascot)
It looks to be a high-quality edition of the Coventry Stakes this year but I'd be surprised if Aidan O'Brien didn't land the contest for the fourth time in nine years with Arizona. This son of No Nay Never showed plenty of greenness when runner-up on debut at the Curragh, but he pulled six lengths clear of the third that day and the winner, Sunday Sovereign, is a really smart prospect. He improved mentally and physically before running over the same course and distance 18 days later and thrashed eight rivals without being asked to move into fifth gear. He relished quick conditions that day but is proven on yielding as well, so the recent rain isn't a concern if it rides slower on day one, and should continue his progression under Ryan Moore.
EYECATCHER
Coeur De Lion (5.00 Royal Ascot)
Unsurprisingly the Ascot Stakes has been dominated by jumps trainers since 2010, with Willie Mullins on a hot streak in this race having won four of the last seven. Buildmeupbuttercup and Mengli Khan head the betting for Mullins and Gordon Elliott, but although they are well handicapped off lowly Flat marks, I think they could find British challenger Coeur De Lion too much to handle for trainer Alan King. A strong stayer who has gone well in big handicaps since 2017, Coeur De Lion, who was sixth in this last year, comes here on the back of an emphatic success at Chester and should appreciate the sting being taken out of the ground here. Thore Hammer Hansen's 5lb claim helps.
DARK HORSE
Accidental Agent (2.30 Royal Ascot)
Likely to be underestimated in the market for the Queen Anne once again despite winning the race last year, Accidental Agent, who has been targeted at this contest for the last 12 months, looks a standout bet at around 12-1. Eve Johnson Houghton's miler proved himself top class with a come-from-behind victory to beat Lord Glitters last year and after a couple of disappointing efforts to end the season when probably over the top, he returned with a fine effort to take third in the Lockinge. He lacked race fitness that day, so you can mark up the effort, and I wouldn't be surprised if he overturned the form with Mustashry.
