The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with four to follow on Saturday
BANKER
U S Navy Flag(4.10 Curragh)
Aidan O'Brien has won the Irish 2,000 Guineas seven times in the last ten runnings and looks to hold all the aces again this year with U S Navy Flag. The War Front colt took his racing well in his juvenile campaign last season and notched four victories from 11 starts, including the Group 1 Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket. He proved he was top class over six and seven furlongs, on a number of different types of ground, and had the stamina for a mile. Following a below-par return to action in April, he ran respectably to finish fifth in the French Guineas despite slipping badly on the bend in what was a messy race. He's now race-fit and aside from the unexposed Elarqam, he holds a class edge over his other rivals.
GOOD THING
Karawaan(6.15 Haydock)
Haydock have missed most of the rain and the fast ground looks set to suit Karawaan, who can prove to be extremely well treated off a mark of 83 in the finale. Sir Michael Stoute's four-year-old, who has had just six starts, looked a different horse when fitted with a first-time tongue-time on his fourth career start – landing a 1m2f Chelmsford maiden by four lengths. The step up to a 0-100 at Goodwood on his next start was too much for him at that point in his career and subsequently underwent a gelding operation. His only run since was a useful third behind two subsequent winners and he should take this under Dane O'Neill.
EYECATCHER
Invincible Army (3.25 Haydock)
James Tate's three-year-old sprinter is ultra consistent in Group-class contests and following a fantastic juvenile campaign, which saw him land the Sirenia Stakes and finish second in a couple of other Group 2s, he proved he had trained on with an easy Group 3 Ascot victory at the start of the month. Well backed before the off, he travelled sweetly through the race on soft ground under Ryan Moore and cleared away without having to be hard-ridden in the closing stages. This race is harder, with Sands Of Mali and the returning Heartache in opposition, but he really impressed me that day.
DARK HORSE
Rattling Jewel(2.25 Curragh)
I tipped this six-year-old last time out on his debut for Joseph O'Brien when he went into a seven-runner five furlong handicap with form figures of 00000. He ran well, but not well enough for my bank balance, to finish second and has only been raised 1lb for that effort. Now partnered with exciting 10lb claimer Alan Persse, and upped in trip, Rattling Jewel should be a nice each-way bet in a competitive race.
