The Punt Daily: Tom Collins with four to follow on Friday
BANKER
Dreamfield(7.40 Ascot)
Handicap blot. Three four-year-olds have won this race in the last five years and Godolphin's Dreamfield looks set to enhance that record. Unbeaten in two career starts, John Gosden's son of Oasis Dream looked a colt with any amount of ability when hacking up by eight lengths on debut at Nottingham in October 2016 and built on that effort when beating subsequent three-time Meydan winner Top Score in a conditions race 14 days later. After that race, Gosden mentioned the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup as his target so, if he retains his ability following a 569-day break, he should prove far too good for these exposed handicappers. He deserves to be odds on.
EYECATCHER
Daira Prince(6.45 Nottingham)
This 0-85 handicap looks to revolve around the top two in the weights, Sinfonietta and Daira Prince and, at the prices, I favour the latter. Almost certainly well treated off a mark of 85, Roger Varian's unexposed four-year-old has been waiting for the ground to quicken up and should have conditions in his favour on Friday. He has form figures of 3211 on good or quicker ground and you can excuse his run in the Silver Cambridgeshire when last seen with the ground and the way the race panned out going against him. He has been gelded since last seen and is fitted with first-time blinkers, which should trigger further improvement.
DARK HORSE
Excelleration (4.30 Lingfield)
Salute The Soldier will have plenty of followers but I'm willing to back against him given he was withdrawn at the start when last seen. Instead, I've sided with James Fanshawe's three-year-old gelding Excelleration, who was well fancied when only finishing third of four on debut over this course and distance. Fanshawe's runners always come on for the run and he'll undoubtedly put in a better performance today. If he's to trouble the judge, he'll have to put in a much better effort, granted, with the form not working out well from his debut effort, but I'd be disappointed if he didn't get into the frame.
EACH-WAY PLAY
Not So Sleepy(3.00 Chester)
Likely to be a reasonably big price, Hughie Morrison's Not So Sleepy is worth a couple of quid each-way in this 0-105 handicap from a nice draw in stall two. The six-year-old won the Dee Stakes over this course and distance three years ago and didn't run a bad race on his only other start at this course in Listed company in September 2016. He's not been performing at his best recently, however, but that has seen his mark drop down to 98 – the same rating he won off at Epsom last June. He's going to need luck in running, but don't be surprised to see him get into the frame with a late burst down the hill.
