The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Thursday afternoon

EACH-WAY PLAY

(3.35 Newmarket)

Chindit's absence from this year's Craven gives it a wide-open look and there are far worse bets than Akmaam at a double-figure price. This Brian Meehan-trained three-year-old, who has an eyecatching pedigree, bolted up by four lengths on his debut at Ascot last term and was described as 'very much a three-year-old in the making' in the post-race interview. We only saw him twice, which was no surprise given his big frame, but he didn't run badly in the Group 3 Autumn Stakes on his other start at this track when fifth. Given natural improvement and his ability to go well fresh, Akmaam holds sound claims of hitting the frame.

EYECATCHER

(4.45 Newmarket)

Those drawn high who raced against the stands' side rail have had success at this meeting, but hopefully the bias won't play too big a part in the closing handicap as I fancy Crossford to go close from stall three. The three-year-old son of Dawn Approach ran well in good maidens (once at this track) on his first couple of starts last term before beating five subsequent winners at Newcastle in October. He won that 7f event impressively and an opening mark of 84 is lenient enough to believe he can back up.
