Winner of this race last year, Elarqam is one of the most underrated horses over middle distances in Britain and he looks set to bounce back from his disappointing fifth in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot to record a sixth career victory. Mark Johnston's runner didn't stay the trip last time and reverts back to a distance at which he has proved extremely consistent and tough. He fended off Addeybb to win last year's edition by three-and-three-quarter lengths and appears to be facing an easier field this time around.

GOOD THING

Evening Sun (3.00 Ascot)

Roger Charlton doesn't train too many for the Queen but they could have a good one in Evening Sun, who showed a huge jolt of improvement when bolting up on his seasonal reappearance at Newmarket at the end of July. The son of Muhaarar travelled powerfully and sprinted away from his rivals over 7f that day and suggested that he was ready for a mile with the way he hit the line. This handicap represents a big step up in class but a mark of 88 may underestimate him.
