The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Saturday

BANKER

(2.25 Newbury)

Joint-winner of the Group 3 St Simon Stakes here last year on testing ground, Morando has struggled in much better races than this of late (beaten by Defoe [twice] and Enable on last three starts) but now gets the drop in grade and should prove too good for his rivals. His latest King George run can be ignored given how strong that race was and the step up in trip can only be considered a positive for a horse with stamina in abundance.

GOOD THING

(5.05 Newmarket)

Roger Varian won this handicap with a promising four-year-old last year and he can repeat the feat with Australis, who is open to more improvement over staying trips. He has bumped into useful types Land Of Oz and Oydis the last twice, but Varian has fitted first-time blinkers now and he gets plenty of weight from his older rivals. He should have the pace to beat these.

EYECATCHER

(3.15 Ripon)

With a likely strong pace favouring those drawn high, the Great St Wilfrid should help those who race off the pace down the stands' side. Lahore, who won three of his first five career starts when with Roger Varian, stands out now that he has been revitalised by Philip Makin. He should have won his penultimate outing but got badly hampered by an injured rival, before making amends at this track last time out in cosy fashion. He's up just 3lb for that and remains a well-treated horse.
