The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Friday afternoon

EACH-WAY PLAY

(1.55 York)

Mark Johnston does well in big-field staying handicaps and Persian Moon, who gets weight all round from his elders as the sole three-year-old in the race, can make the frame at a decent double-figure price. The booking of Silvestre de Sousa, who has partnered him to two victories, looks key, while the return to York, where front-runners often go well, can only be seen as a positive.

DARK HORSE

Mabs Cross(3.35 York)

Battaash and Ten Sovereigns will dominate the market for the Nunthorpe, but Mabs Cross looks an each-way bet to nothing in a race where not much splits the top three on form. There are doubts about the trip for Ten Sovereigns, while Battaash's York record is questionable, so the 5-1 on offer about Mabs Cross, who only lost by a nose in this race last year and is primed for a career-best performance looks the value play. Michael Dods' mare seems to be better than ever this year and you can excuse her third-placed effort in the Temple on her penultimate start as she lost a shoe. She was readily beaten by Battaash at Royal Ascot but this track will play to her strength and she can threaten the market leaders with a sustained late burst.
