The Punt Daily: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Friday afternoon
GOOD THING
Tedham(3.10 Cheltenham)
This five-year-old is the leading light of my jumps tracker and I'm extremely hopeful that he will have a prolific season, especially given his current handicap mark of 131. The son of Shirocco built on an encouraging bumper third when recording form figures of 432 in big-field novice hurdles won by Al Dancer (subsequent Grade 3 Betfair Hurdle winner now rated 151), The Big Bite (subsequent winner now rated 140) and Getaway Trump (dual subsequent winner and placed at Grade 1 level now rated 155) respectively. He wasn't beaten far by any of those talented conveyances and it was no surprise to see him dot up on handicap debut off 125 in January. He then had a break from the track before returning for a Grade 3 at the Grand National meeting, where he finished seventh of 21 after being sent off favourite. He raced keenly and made a bad mistake that day, so you can mark up his effort, and if he is anywhere near 100 per cent fit on his return, Tedham has to go close.
DARK HORSE
Testing conditions at Newbury should suit Chris Wall's Ice Lord more than the vast majority of the runners at the track on Friday and the booking of James Doyle (9-23, 39 per cent strike-rate for the trainer) is a serious sign of intent. A five-time winner, Ice Lord often comes good this time of the year (three of those successes between August and October) and is back down to a mark of 87, 5lb lower than his last success. That win came almost exactly a year ago and hopes are high that he can replicate that performance 12 months on.
