BANKER

Spectrum Of Light(3.55 Newmarket)

An unexposed son of Golden Horn, Spectrum Of Light took three attempts to get off the mark but won well on his first outing over 1m2f on the Rowley Mile here, beating a subsequent winner by a short head in game fashion. Trainer Charlie Appleby stepped him up an extra two furlongs last time and he was only narrowly denied by a similarly unexposed rival. That runner-up effort came off a mark of 80 and although he's been put up 4lb for that, he is still handicapped to win with further improvement likely.

EYECATCHER

Al Muffrih (7.25 Ripon)

This year's edition of the Ripon Bell-Ringer Handicap looks pretty competitive but I like the chance of the William Haggas-trained Al Muffrih, a five-year-old son of Sea The Stars. He looked a fantastic prospect early in his career when winning the Zetland Gold Cup on just his fifth start last summer, only to slip on the bend in the Old Newton Cup on his next outing and snap his surcingle. Haggas gave him a year off the track after that and he made a quiet return to action in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot when tenth. Al Muffrih improved plenty for that run and wasn't beaten far into third at York six days ago. Providing he's come out the race well, he must have a great chance from the front on a track that favours pacesetters.
