A waiting ride often wins the Golden Mile and Escobar, who should race in midfield from a nice draw in stall 12, looks the prime candidate to take this coveted prize. David O'Meara's five-year-old doesn't have much in hand of the handicapper following his last-time-out success, but he did it really well that day at York and seems to be thriving at present. He's just 2lb higher than when heavily punted for this race last year (sent off 9-2 favourite), in which he found trouble in running before taking eighth, and gets the assistance of Jamie Spencer in the saddle this time around. It's hard to see him out of the frame.

This doesn't look the strongest edition of the Bonhams and Duke Of Hazzard, who is more exposed than most but boasts a solid level of form, could be the one to take the Group 3 prize. Paul Cole's runner, who is unbeaten at this track (1-1), has been highly tried this season but showed promise when fifth of 18 in the Jersey Stakes on his penultimate outing, before improving chunks to take a Listed prize last time out. The catalyst to that improvement looked to be first-time blinkers and with the headgear retained today, he can follow up under PJ McDonald.
