Hardline was a 22-1 chance and clearly not much was expected from his first run in such a long time on ground that was quicker than ideal. However, he performed with great credit and renews rivalry with Royal Rendezvous on 5lb better terms. The best run of his life was over this 2m4f trip on soft ground when he claimed second behind Min in the 2019 John Durkan and any improvement from the Gowran run will make him tough to beat.
