The Punt Acca: Robbie Wilders bids to follow last week's 16-1 treble on Monday
Galia Des Liteaux (1.20 Kempton)
Slower ground would be a major concern for McFabulous in the Kauto Star Novices' Chase and it could be worth opposing the favourite with Galia Des Liteaux. It might be considered a vote of confidence that trainer Dan Skelton has elected to bypass the Kauto Star with ante-post fancy Ballygrifincottage and rely solely on this mare instead. Galia Des Liteaux ran to a Racing Post Rating of 145 when motoring through heavy ground at Bangor on her chasing debut last month and while this is a huge rise in class, she will relish conditions and is an unknown quantity. Well worth considering receiving 7lb from the boys.
Shan Blue (1.35 Wetherby)
The big betting race of the day in Britain is the Rowland Meyrick at Wetherby and this is a belter. It looks more like a Grade 2 than a handicap and I'm struggling to look past Shan Blue, who only three starts back was set to run out a deeply impressive winner of the Charlie Hall over this course and distance. Shan Blue fell three out that day but ran to an RPR of 166 and simply must be well handicapped off a mark of 148. Although Shan Blue failed to capitalise on that rating at Aintree in April, his second-placed effort there is worth marking up. He was giving 1lb to the well-treated Sam Brown and pulled ten lengths clear of the third.
Kilcruit(2.40 Limerick)
The Faugheen Novice Chase at Limerick always turns into a slog and hot favourite Gerri Colombe will have his work cut out in these conditions to fend off the more battle-hardened Kilcruit. My selection's only try on ground with heavy in the going description yielded a dominant 12-length success in a Grade 2 bumper at Leopardstown a couple of seasons ago. There was plenty to like about Kilcruit’s chasing debut at Punchestown and he is by some way the highest-calibre opponent Gerri Colombe has faced.
