Ben Pauling's string remain in brilliant form and it would be no shock if The Cob was to follow up his wide-margin chase debut win off topweight. A Grade 2 winner as a hurdler, he sauntered to a front-running 13-length win over Lanzarote Hurdle winner and Martin Pipe second Cobblers Dream. That form looks way above what his four other rivals have achieved so far and he could be dangerous if getting an easy lead again.

The clear form standout is Graded-placed Perseus Way, but Start In Front made an impressive hurdles debut at Wetherby last month and should go close here. A winner in France before switching to Rebecca Menzies's yard, the four-year-old stormed to a seven-length success at the Yorkshire track, beating two previous winners in the process. That form could work out well.

Gay Kelleway is in terrific form and Foinix looks poised to go better than his career-best effort at Kempton two days ago. The three-year-old was unlucky to lose his position at a crucial stage, but rallied well to be beaten by just a neck in third. He is not penalised for that effort and represents a trainer who is operating at a 36 per cent strike-rate as of Thursday afternoon.
