Perfect Thunder (4.50 Fairyhouse)

Looked a smart prospect at the start of the year and ran respectably in a handicap at the Curragh in May. Things did not seem to fall right that day and she ran better in a three-runner race on her next start at Listowel. Was tried and ultimately failed in a Group 3 last time but has been dropped 3lb and this is considerably weaker. This big filly should be able to carry a big weight and she should handle the ground.

Grand Roi (5.05 Listowel)

This looks between the two at the top of the market but Grand Roi gets the verdict. He has shown a high level of form over hurdles in the past and he signed off last season with a decent run in a Grade 2 at Fairyhouse. It is interesting to see him tried back in distance at 2m1f now and he always showed plenty of speed. He has the physique of a chaser so could be a decent novice over fences this season.

Beauty Crescent(5.50 Fairyhouse)

Needed his third run – and first-time blinkers – to get off the mark but he came out on top of a good battle with Congo River, who has franked the form since. Beauty Crescent looked destined for second at one point but rallied really well and that bodes well now he is stepped up in trip by half a furlong. This lightly raced type can continue to improve.
