The Punt Acca: Harry Wilson's three all-weather tips at Newcastle on Sunday
Quercus Robur(1.15 Newcastle)
Having finished a close second on his stable debut for Adam Nicol, Quercus Robur effortlessly went one better over this course and distance when trying this trip for the first time. Kevin Stott took the lead up with a double handful before quickening clear of the field that day, emphasising there was plenty more to come. A 6lb rise for that easy success could highly underestimate him and he could have plenty more to offer at this sort of trip. He could prove very hard to beat.
Liberated Lad(2.15 Newcastle)
Liberated Lad has been very consistent since returning from a 75-day break in December and found the step up to 1m6f beneficial when running away with a Class 6 handicap at Southwell on Friday. He was well backed before the off which suggests connections knew they had a well-handicapped horse on their hands and that he would stay. He drops back to 1m4½f here but that shouldn't be an issue as Newcastle is a particularly stiff track. His rivals have either never won or find wins hard to come by, so there is every chance he can follow up under the penalty.
Jkr Cobbler(3.15 Newcastle)
The first-time hood seemed to work wonders as Jkr Cobbler got off the mark at the tenth time of asking over course and distance just over a week ago. He hasn't gone unbacked on either of his last two starts – both in classified stakes – and the drop to 6f last time enabled him to finish his race to better effect. He wasn't the best-treated horse either last time so that run can be marked up and he pulled three lengths clear with the favourite, who franked the form by winning his next. This is the lowest mark he's run off in a handicap and he could follow up here.
