AMERICAN ANGLE

Performer(8.15 Aqueduct)

Tax, who finished 14th in the Kentucky Derby, fourth in the Belmont Stakes and won the Jim Dandy, sets a good standard in this Grade 3 contest but he's had a long, hard season and may fall short of the unexposed Performer. Shug McGaughey's charge caught the eye on debut this time last year when a bad break cost him a winning chance, but has made amends on all three starts this year and now seeks a four-timer. He has progressed up the ranks in fine style, recording good speed figures in the process, and proved he can make all or close under a patient ride. This is by far his toughest test but I'm hopeful he can come up trumps. It's worth noting he was morning-line favourite in the US.

EYECATCHER

Indian Raj (8.20 Wolverhampton)

A three-time winner from ten starts for trainer Stuart Williams, Indian Raj hasn't performed to the best of his abilities on his last three outings (twice at Sandown) but is chanced now back on the all-weather. His sole start on a synthetic surface saw him land a Newcastle handicap off a mark of 76 in August 2017 and although he suffered a setback after that performance (had 629 days off) and hasn't recaptured that kind of form this year, he looks well treated off a mark of 73 today. This is his easiest task for some time and providing the draw in stall nine doesn't cause too much hindrance, he really should go close.
