Fantastically-bred filly (half-sister to Alpha Centauri) who ran an eyecatching third on debut to the reopposing Love, before scooting clear of her rivals at Galway last time. Both are strong pieces of form and given Alpha Centauri got better with age, it is safe to assume that she will improve throughout her career. The price disparity between Alpine Star and Love this morning was ridiculous and the market has corrected itself now.

Bowling Russian(6.05 Goodwood)

A breeze-up purchase who is winless in three starts in novice company but has not been beaten far and now rates an intriguing runner on handicap debut for trainer George Baker. Eyecatching when fifth on his last two outings, including last time at Glorious Goodwood behind the smart Cobra Eye, Bowling Russian has hinted that a step up to seven furlongs would suit and he gets that extra distance tonight. His initial mark of 70 may well underestimate this improving colt who should also be suited by a small field.
