The Evening Punt: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips on Wednesday

GOOD THING

(7.40 Kempton)

A typical Stuart Williams-trained improver who wouldn't have appreciated the quick ground at Brighton on two of his last three runs but notched an impressive victory in between those efforts and has to be strongly considered on that basis. That win came at Chelmsford in mid August, a day when being on the pace proved profitable, but Sandy Steve was held up well in rear before coming through with a surging run to deny subsequent dual winner Fair Power by a length and three quarters. That effort certainly needs marking up, especially given it was his all-weather debut, and he remains open to any amount of improvement over this trip back on a synthetic surface.

DARK HORSE

(8.25 Newcastle)

One One Seven will be hard to beat but if there's a fly in the ointment at a much bigger price it is probably Bithiah. Ismail Mohammed, who is 7-22 at this track (+£9.80 to £1 level stakes), would have had handicaps in mind from an early stage for this former breeze-up filly, who hasn't been disgraced in three novice runs. She hasn't beaten much in those races and clearly isn't the easiest given she has worn a hood (retained), but she caught the eye when third last time behind a couple of above average sorts and a mark of 51 could underestimate her.
