Karis Teetan has worked hard to consolidate his position among Hong Kong's riding elite and looks set to maintain the momentum with eight good rides on a tricky card at Happy Valley.

The best of them appears to be rapid improver Flying Genius, who looks perfectly placed by trainer Tony Cruz to complete a course-and-distance hat-trick in the Class 3 5f handicap (2.15).

It can be a guessing game with the Hong Kong newcomers, irrespective of how well they have performed in barrier trials, which often become as important as actual races in the horse trade from Australia.

But Flying Genius, a son of Black Caviar’s half-brother All Too Hard, has wasted no time in establishing himself as a young sprinter with a big future. His first win came under Ryan Moore in early December and he was quick to repeat the performance for Teetan two weeks later.

The impressive thing about his most recent success was that he displayed enough speed to make all from a wide draw (12), which is no mean feat at Happy Valley.

His biggest danger is likely to be the Richard Gibson-trained Heart Conquered, who won in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide when with the Hawkes trio in Australia. His third in a Sha Tin sprint on New Year's Day was a promising local debut.

Teetan also has a good chance of landing the closing Class 3 6f handicap (2.50) with Highly Proactive, who has caught the eye in all three of his local starts.

He was a dual winner in his native New Zealand and has been a surprise package for his Hong Kong connections where he is yet to finish out of the first three and is clearly going the right way. His last effort in overcoming a wide draw to win said much for his raw ability.

Silvestre de Sousa also has an excellent chance of a winner with Happy Good Guys in the Class 4 5f handicap (11.45). He is still a maiden after eight starts but the four-year-old son of Zoustar has dropped to a mark where he looks dangerous.
