This three-year-old can shine back on a better surface

John Gosden's Waldkonig looked a proper Group performer in the making on his debut at Wolverhampton, but he will be facing a much different calibre of opposition here on fast turf rather than Polytrack and he might not be the good thing some seem to think.

Volkan Star looked a decent performer in the making when a six-length winner of his novice in August (runner-up won earlier in the week, third is rated considerably higher than anything Waldkonig beat at Wolverhampton) and I'd forgive his run in the Zetland Stakes here in October. That came on very soft ground which the son of Sea The Stars did not seem to appreciate, and he is likely to prove better than that back on a decent surface.
