Jennie Candlish has a fine record of three from 11, a 27 per cent strike-rate, when applying first time cheekpieces to a runner. This is an increase on her overall strike-rate of 14 per cent and she will be hoping the headgear works the trick on Astroland in the 1.50 at Carlisle.

Rose Dobbin has a strike-rate of six per cent with her chasing debutants, with two wins from 31 runners. However, at Carlisle the trainer is two from three with such runners, a 67 per cent strike-rate, and she sends former point-to-point winner Lady London to the track for her first run over fences in the 5.00.

Tom Lacey’s stable is in red-hot form at present with three winners from four runners – a 75 per cent strike-rate – over the last 14 days. The Ledbury-based trainer sends two to Exeter, Alberto’s Dream in the 3.40 and Colt Lightning in the 4.45.
