Stiff finish results in early bath for Juan layers

Bath's stiff finish caught out a few punters in a big way in the 5½f handicap. Juan Horsepower was done at 1,000 on Betfair (£17 traded at the ceiling price) when briefly outpaced and shuffled back at halfway, but he relished the rise to the line, making up several lengths in the final two furlongs to run down Evergate (1.35) close home.

It was a similar story in the 1m3½f handicap as Petrify was backed at 400 before storming home to beat Golden Muscade and Hallingham (1.05).

Noble Manners was backed down to 1.17 in the novice stakes at Beverley but needed another stride as Time Trial (34) just held on.
