When A Shin Impala edged out the 92-rated Tonkinese on the second-last Friday in March, a successful season looked in store for the imposing Avasive gelding. But it has all gone pear-shaped since and he arrives for the 1m2f handicap (6.00) tonight with form figures of 0868. That tells you all you need to know.

But the flip side of that shocking run of form is that his handicap mark has dropped from 86 to 76 for his first try at the trip –something I feel he has been crying out for.

There was more sign of life last time when he was hampered on a couple of occasions up the home straight but was still only beaten three and a half lengths by Chestnut Fire.
