Won, Fairyhouse, December 16
An impressive chasing debut from this pointing graduate who showed a fair level of ability over hurdles last season. This Flemensfirth gelding comfortably beat some promising chasers in this 2m beginners’ chase, including useful yardstick Brelade, who has finished second to both Footpad and Petit Mouchoir this season. He clearly has enough speed to be effective over the minimum chase distance, although he should stay further, and if backing up this performance he could develop into a contender for the JLT.

Won, Doncaster, December 15
An improving hurdler who is climbing the weights, but his rising mark means he can now be aimed at more valuable prizes and given the way he easily defied a penalty in this 2m3½f Class 4 novice handicap, to improve his record in handicaps to two wins from two starts, he looks as if he can be competitive in higher grades. He got better the further he went and could improve again when upped in distance.
