Soft ground should not be a problem for Espion Du Chenet in the Ladbrokes Handicap Chase. The French-bred gelding showed his effectiveness on winter ground when winning at Naas and Thurles last season and scored on yielding going at Killarney during the summer.

He has held his form since then and was a long way clear of the third when chasing home easy winner Bridge Native at Galway on his latest start. The long run-in at the stiff Ballybrit track seemed to drain his stamina, but he now has two furlongs less to travel.
