Punchestown starts the new season with a two-day meeting, and some cracking prospects run on what should be a very informative afternoon.

One gets the impression that the naming of Cracking Smart is no accident, and this horse deserves some healthy billing for his seasonal bow in the Coral.ie-sponsored maiden hurdle (3.10).

He made his debut over hurdles when putting it up to his much better fancied stable companion Midnight Escape in a maiden hurdle at Naas in February, but the comprehensive manner of his victory in a well-contested bumper at Fairyhouse over Easter left no doubt about his potential as he galloped his rivals into submission to score by 13 lengths.
