Red Warrior

Eminent
9.40 Sha Tin
1pt win, 1pt place

Full Of Beauty
10.50 Sha Tin
2pts win

Beauty Generation is the star of Hong Kong’s cracking Champions Day card at Sha Tin but this outstanding six-year-old is simply unbackable in the Mile (9.00), which he should win with his head in his chest.

The superlatives, all fully deserved, have been exhausted for a horse, who has continued to thrive in the care of trainer John Moore. His current winning sequence of eight started in this contest 12 months ago.

But looking to the other races, there is plenty of value to be found. With Mr Stunning withdrawal from the Chairman’s Sprint Prize (8.20), the in-form Australian sprinter Santa Ana Lane will have fewer rivals to deal with – and local punters are likely to let him go off over the odds.

Then, there is the Group 1 QEII Cup, one of the most hotly-contested races staged in Hong Kong in several years. Eminent (9.40), officially a British entry but part-owned, trained and ridden by New Zealanders, is worth an each-way bet.

The son of Frankel arrives at Sha Tin off the back of a poor run in Winx’s farewell race, the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes, but he didn’t take to the ear muffs fitted that day at Randwick, and wisely they have been discarded this time.

Eminent was fourth in the 2017 Derby at Epsom and third in the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown, so he definitely has class on his side. He looks a picture of fitness.

Exultant, winner of the Hong Kong Vase, and Furore, this year’s local Derby hero, are the biggest dangers.

Incidentally, one of the best runs from a beaten horse in the Hong Kong Derby was by the John Size-trained Red Warrior (7.15), who has a big chance at long odds in a Class 2 handicap early on the program.

Dropping back to a mile will work in his favour, and with Joao Moreira plumping for stablemate Time To Celebrate, he will be ‘overs’ in the market. Chad Schofield retains the ride.

In the finale, Moreira and Size can strike with the talented Full Of Beauty (10.50), who last time failed by a short head to make it six wins in a row. Nicely drawn, he can land the prize from Styling City.
