It did not take long for the jumps season to click into gear as soon as the Flat turf season ended, and the opening maiden hurdle at Naas on Saturday was an interesting contest, won by Aintree Grade 2 bumper winning mare Ashroe Diamond and with a few potential winners behind her.

This Jimmy Mangan-trained gelding ran quite an eyecatching race on his third run having shown little in a pair of maiden hurdles in the spring, but it would appear he has done well over the summer as this was by far his best effort. He was never in the race with a chance, but he began to make some headway before the straight and was running on before a mistake two out. Beaten 16 lengths into ninth place, it is an effort which can be upgraded.
