Rostropovitch shows perfect timing under Moore

Credit: Alan Crowhurst

Although it needed Ryan Moore to be at his most persuasive, Rostropovich always looked like he might wear down stablemate Coat Of Arms in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes at the Curragh and did so right on the line after being matched at 60 on Betfair. It was a surprise to find more than £8,800 traded at 1.01 on the runner-up, who had been done at 1.05 when also collared close home on his previous start.

Almost Gemini was backed down to 1.2 in the 2m1f handicap at Pontefract, but was just outstayed by Wordiness, who was matched at 12.

Croquembouche, outsider of the field in the 1m4f handicap at Pontefract, was backed at 32 on his way to making all from the strong-finishing Melting Dew who, despite failing by the minimum margin, got no lower than 2.6.
