Rock toughs it out but Gymkhana backers need their eyes testing

Credit: Edward Whitaker

The 7f Listed contest at Naas produced not only the best finish of the day but also the strangest in-running betting seen for some time. In the race itself, Texas Rock just held on after being matched at 100 on Betfair. Second home Drumfad Bay traded at 1.33 and third Whitecliffsofdover at a low-looking 1.32. However, that was nothing compared to the near £10,000 traded at 1.01 on sixth-placed Gymkhana, in what was surely a case of mistaken identity even though the winner's silks weren't that similar.

Betty Loch was matched at 1.01 before losing out to Constant Comment in the 7f handicap at Naas. The winner was backed at 150, as was Arthington, who landed the 2m½f novice hurdle at Stratford.

Ossie's Dancer was backed down to 1.04 in the 2m4½f handicap chase at Market Rasen but couldn't hold off Sandymount (34).
