Ranger to perish on Rock's durability
Dual Group 1 winner is fancied to have the measure of Derby runner-up
US Army Ranger returns to action at the Curragh this afternoon for the first time since pushing Harzand hardest in the Investec Derby at Epsom.
With the winner following up in the Irish version and the third, Idaho, finishing second at the Curragh before plundering the Great Voltigeur, the Epsom form is standing up well. Wings Of Desire took fourth in the premier Classic, and he emerged with credit when second to Highland Reel in the King George at Ascot before misfiring at York.
The indications are that it was an up-to-scratch edition of the Derby, and victory for US Army Ranger today would enhance that impression. However, as an individual, he has yet to fully convince.
