Plumpton Placepot picks: Graeme Rodway with his perm for Sunday's fixture

Due to a spate of small fields, no more than two places are available in all six Placepot races at Plumpton, but that can sometimes help the dividend provided there is a surprise or two.

There probably won’t be any surprises in the opening 2m maiden hurdle (1.55) because Saligo Bay sets the standard on form and represents Gary Moore, who rarely misses the target with this type of horse at his local track. Saligo Bay rates banker material to kick it off.

The 2m4½f handicap hurdle (2.30) looks like another race where the favourite will be hard to beat. Put Hiway One O Three in the perm, but also take a punt on Fred Bear for an upset.

The 3m1½f handicap chase (3.05) is a very tight contest in which four of the five runners are level on Racing Post Ratings. Take two against the field with Len Brennan and Gleno.

The 2m4½f handicap hurdle (3.40) looks like a match between Bourbali and Lord Baddesley. Put both in and hope that Lord Baddesley can build on his Newbury fourth.

The 3m1f handicap hurdle (4.15) should go to Good News. He runs well on good ground over course and distance and takes on some out-of-form rivals. Make him banker material.

The closing 2m3½f conditional jockeys’ handicap chase (4.50) could be the one for the upset. Darebin is useful on his day and is on a fair mark, while Silent Assistant is next best.
